New Year Resolutions - Goal Setting
Whilst we have no intention of straying into the self-improvement arena - others are far better equipped for that than we are - there is nevertheless a great deal of importance to be attached to the subject of goal setting. It is often quoted (albeit with varying percentages) that 95% of people who think clearly about their goals, who write them down and review them regularly, do actually achieve them. Conversely, 95% of people who don't establish clear goals never achieve anything much at all in life. Whatever the true percentages (and how could we possibly measure them exactly?), the fact remains that creating clear goals which you can be passionate about, then preparing detailed plans for achieving them, does in some way contribute to the achievement of those goals. I've known people who pinned a photograph of their favourite Porsche on the notice board in their kitchen; others who carried a list of their three major goals on a card in their wallet and recited them three times a day. Different approaches work for different people. But one thing is certain - unless you have plans, you are unlikely to make much progress. And this applies as much to your property goals as it does to other areas of your life. If you are looking for increased income, that requires a particular type of approach: if short-term capital gains, a different type of approach: if long-term net asset wealth, yet another... and so on. So when setting your goals for 2007, your New Year Resolutions, be as precise as you can about what you want because if you want it seriously enough you just might get it! Other Stories...
